Description: This webinar will present the results of a comprehensive monitoring program conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to measure the rock mass displacements, support response, and stress changes at a longwall tailgate entry in West Virginia. The results show how the roof sag transferred loading to the cable bolts, and how the standing support loading increased as the cable bolts started to shed load when the roof sag became excessive. The standing support system was able to maintain an adequate opening in by the shields to provide ventilation to the first crosscut in by the face, as designed. The monitoring results have provided valuable data for the development and validation of current research to develop support design strategies for longwall gateroad entries.
