About Registered Membership
Registered Membership refers to a specific membership type. The Registered Member Program was created in response to members who perform specialized functions relating to reserve consulting and reporting and need to satisfy the overseas requirement as a Competent/Qualified Person (QP) in that they belong to a Recognized Overseas Professional Organization (ROPO). A Registered Member is a scientist, engineer or technologist who is involved in various ways with the discovery, extraction and utilization of minerals, metals and energy sources. The membership includes geologists and other geoscientists, mining engineers and metallurgists, environmentalist, other engineers and other scientists and technologists.

If you are an existing SME Registered Member you are required to do the following to maintain your Registered Member status

Review and accept the SME Registered Member Code of Ethics once a year
- Declare your Area(s) of Competency
- Earn 30 or more Professional Development Hours (PDH) within a two year period. You may be subject to an audit of your continuing education, if asked you will be required to provide a copy of your continuing education log as well as proof of earned PDHs
