Change Management or Management of Change (MOC): An Essential Tool in Your HSMS Risk Management Toolbox

Sometimes misunderstood and often under-utilized, Change Management or Management of Change (MOC) is process to help guide critical risk management. When effectively implemented, MOC can help prevent the potential for unintended consequences such as new hazards to arise as a result of planned changes. This webinar is meant for a wide audience: those new to the MOC concept will learn the basics including advice on how to get started and get buy-in from management, as well as, to those looking for a fresh perspective that may help them better promote and/or improve their existing MOC process. Examples will be shared highlighting real life successes and challenges experienced by the speaker and her peers in the mining industry.

Speaker Bio:

Whitney Derber is a Mine Safety & Health Training Instructor at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM). During her 14 years of health and safety mining experience, Whitney has worn many (hard) hats including field level safety professional, internal and external HSMS and risk-based auditor, HSMS developer and manager, health and safety consultant for both domestic and international clients, Mine Rescue Team member, and MSHA Part 48 Trainer. Notable career highlights for Whitney include the Climax Mine restart in Colorado and the Lone Star expansion project at the Safford Mine in Arizona. Whitney received her B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Colorado – Boulder. She is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and a MSHA-approved IS instructor.
