Description: "Andrea Brickey, Associate Professor, South Dakota School of Mines, will present “Applying Optimized Underground Production Schedules in the Real World.” Underground production scheduling has traditionally been a time-consuming, manual task in which the goal is to achieve corporate- or operation-defined production targets. This webinar will discuss current research initiatives that are helping to reduce solution times and improve the quality of underground production schedules. The majority of the presentation will focus on solving a large-scale integer optimization model developed for an operational underground mine. The model maximizes discounted gold ounces mined by determining the sequence of activities related to the development, extraction and backfilling of an underground mine. The presentation will also discuss the incorporation of ventilation into the scheduling process and ideas for future research moving towards a more holistic mine schedule.
